ABOUT

Hi, we are the RetroPod team – Helen and Pete. We live in the beautiful Byron Shire, far north coast NSW on a cattle farm with our son.

We have had a long term love affair with vintage caravans, owning ‘The Pod’ since 2008, we are very excited to be turning this passion into a business and share the vintage caravan and glamping love.

This new venture allows us to use all our practical skills, acquired through careers as a Jeweller and a Mechanic, combined with our passion for vintage caravans to renovate and create beautiful spaces for you to create memories for a lifetime.

“we set it up
we make the beds
we have the arguments
… so you don’t have to”

While we still have the odd argument while setting up, we are getting pretty practiced at it now and know that we are saving many couples the pressure of trying to work out which pole goes where and bickering over who forgot the hammer and love our role in making a camping holiday on the beautiful north coast an easier and more pleasant experience for many!

We pride ourselves on excellent service, here are reviews from some of our guests:

“What a fabulous way to camp, everyone setting up around us and we turned up with our swimmers and towels and simply unzipped the tent with everything taken care of. Nice to see quality items from utensils to BBQ we appreciated it!” Lucy
“We absolutely loved the Atomic! My daughter was beside herself and cried when we had to leave! This is the best way to camp, it’s all set up when you arrive and packed up after you leave. The van itself has been lovingly restored and has everything you need in it. It was perfect for our little family of three. Helen was a pleasure to deal with, responding quickly and being very accommodating with our requests. We also made a lot of new friends as the Atomic is a talking point and everyone wanted to take a look at her. Thanks Helen, we couldn’t recommend this camping experience high enough. We will definitely be doing it again!” Jodie
“We wanted something different for a few days at Brunswick Heads and as we’d flown in from Sydney we didn’t have any camping gear with us. Helen was great to deal with and made everything so easy. The tent was fantastic and got plenty of comments from other campers – it was a hit all round. Our 2 kids loved the novelty of it, the beds were comfortable and the whole thing worked out really well. Everything was provided by Helen as described including the fridge and even coffee and a plunger. Highly recommended!!” Stephen
“We booked the campsite and Helen did the rest! I am officially in love with “glamping”!! The tent is beyond gorgeous and had plenty of room for the 5 of us (2 adults and three boys 11-14 yo). Beds were comfy, and the amenities were perfect. Not to mention- at the end of our stay we just drove away (and Helen came back to do the rest).” Kim
“Helen was a terrific host and everything was exactly as represented. The van was a huge hit and the double bed especially comfy! It was all set up before our arrival and then packed down after we left – the easiest camping ever!” Vicki
“Helen was amazingly helpful and responded to all my equiries. Organised this for Splendour in the Grass, she was very kind in assisting us with booking. Arrived to a fully functioning well setup camp site…nothing more to do except enjoy the festival! Very happy with everything. Love the Lotus Bell!” Grant
“Cannot recommend this enough. So, so awesome. Helen was fantastic, and let’s just say i’ll be back! Thanks for having us Helen!” Phil
“We had a magical weekend in the Lotus Belle sleeping under the stars to the sound of waves and cicadas. Helen was a wonderful hostand arriving to the camp spot with everything set up and ready to enjoy was wonderful. It was especially wonderful as we have a toddler so the setup would have taken much longer than our baby free days. I can’t recommend this option enough for someone who wants to reconnect with nature with a little bit of luxury. Helen thanks for the beautiful experience!” Jacqueline
